2. Methods

Field of Study:
The study was carried out at School of Science and Technology, Singapore.

School of Science and Technology, Singapore was chosen as we are unable to cover the whole area of Singapore due to budgets and schedules. Since the location is our school, it would be easier for us to conduct the research. There is also a weather station in SST which tracks the humidity and lightning data.

Data Collection:
Our data collection process was sourcing for data from Mr Tan and Niklaus. This method of data collection was chosen as Mr Ng advised that our initial data collection method was dangerous and is not feasible to be carried out. This method of data collection was chosen as it was much safer and Mr Tan and Niklaus had all the necessary data from the weather station in SST.

As there is a weather station in SST, with the help of Mr Tan and Niklaus, we were able to gain access to the data from this weather station for our study. . Thus we had the necessary data of humidity and lightning to carry out our study by comparing the two pieces of data.

Previously, Mr Tan Hoe Teck had suggested that we use an electricity generator as well as a hygrometer. However, due to time constraints, we rejected the suggestion.

Data Analysis:
Our data analysis method was to compare the two pieces of data side by side to find out the effect of humidity on the number of lightning strikes. A sharp increase in the graph of the lightning data would mean that there is a high number of lightning strikes. We scanned through the graphs of the lightning data and when we spot a sharp increase, we would then refer to the humidity data and compare the level of humidity.
